Hitzendorf is close enough to the provincial capital, Graz, that you can escape to the countryside not only by car, but also by bike, on foot or simply on foot. And that’s where it’s a real bonus that Hitzendorf is far enough away from Graz for the air here to be fresh and the countryside unspoilt. Welcome to all those eager for some exercise in this green paradise just outside the city!

49 square kilometres full of opportunities
Since 1 January 2015, Attendorf, Hitzendorf and Rohrbach-Steinberg have formed a new, larger municipality. With 6,800 inhabitants, the new Hitzendorf is the fourth-largest municipality in the Graz-Umgebung district. This also offers new opportunities for tourism: the merger has created a new, larger tourism association, to which businesses from all three former municipalities now belong!
Hiking along blossoming trails
The first buds are just beginning to burst open, and spring is already lining the path with fresh greenery and colourful flowers: so it’s high time for the traditional cherry blossom hike, which sets off from Hitzendorf on Sunday for the 29th time. This year, the Alpine Club has marked out three routes of seven, twelve or 15 kilometres across hills and valleys, with four refreshment stops along the way offering food, drink and a cosy atmosphere. The walk starts at 8.00 am in front of the Kirschenhalle!
...so your throat doesn’t get rusty!
Every first Monday of the month, the Hitzendorf Kirchenwirt hosts a ‘Musicians’ Regulars’ Table’ – much to the delight not only of the musicians but also of the other guests. Regulars’ table host Sabine Probst and the musicians create a lively atmosphere and good cheer in a semi-private setting. The innkeepers Ilse Pötscher and Rudi Pöschl have now been honoured for this initiative: the Kirchenwirt has been awarded the title of “Musician-friendly Restaurant” by the Styrian Folk Song Society and the Styrian Chamber of Commerce. Bettina Koch and Hofrat Gunther Hasewend from the Styrian Folk Song Society presented the award.
