Trentino on the one side, the province of Lombardy on the other. At an elevation of 1,800 meters above sea leve, the Tonale Pass connects not only these two regions, but also represents Trentino's gateway to Switzerland. It is a well known center of tourism and trade, but ski fans know it best because of the 3,000 meter high Presena Glacier, where you can ski even in the summertime. Indeed, the Tonale is always one of the first ski lifts to begin operation in the Alps, and it's one of the last to shut down when the season comes to an end. Approz. 30 aerial lifts are waiting to take you to about 80 km of slopes half of which has "guaranteed snow" (by virtue of artificial snow machines). With three black ski slopes and 14 red ones, each skier will find the slopes suited to his abilities. In any case, you shouldn't miss the two black "Paradiso" ski slopes (one of which is 2,700 meters long and has an altitude differential of 725 meters), the red "Alpino" slope (where you can slalom down 4 km of snow) and the new "Contrabbandieri" (which attains an altitude of 2,700 meters). The practice slopes are also noteworthy. Almost all of them are located in proximity to the hotels: broad, sunny, safe, slightly sloping snow fields where beginners can quickly improve their style.
