Parts of the area have been under protection since 1957. The new Orchid Trail features ten stations showing special species in the area, why they occur here specifically, and why they can only be preserved with appropriate care. Besides the orchids, the experience trail also shows other special species from the groups of butterflies, birds, and grasshoppers. The smaller circular trail is about 1.8 km long and includes seven stations; if you choose the detour to the Kalkquellsumpf, you can see all ten stations walking about 2.8 km. The path has some ascents and descents and is mostly only a narrow trail. Good footwear is therefore recommended.

Please note: Dogs must be kept on a leash in the nature reserve.
Arrival by car: In Gersheim, follow the signs for the Orchid Area, drive along Dekan-Schindler-Straße to Lachenhof.
Take the regional train to Blieskastel-Lautzkirchen station. From there, take the Biosphere Bus 501 to Gersheim bus station. From the bus station, it is about a 25-minute walk through Dekan-Schindler-Straße to Lachenhof.
There are unpaved parking spaces at Lachenhof. However, it is better to park vehicles at Spohn's house or at the cemetery on Dekan-Schindler-Straße and then walk to Lachenhof (about 10 minutes).
