Dear biker,
The magical symbol of the Swabian Alb – Germany’s most historically significant low mountain range – is the unique Löwenmensch (Lion Man). The lion stands for power and dignity, pride and strength and is featured in the coat of arms of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Numerous stories revolve around the "king of the animals" and inspire a desire to explore the Alb with all its facets.
You can follow the lion’s tracks not only on foot in the district of Göppingen: the Löwentrails stand for mountain biking in diverse natural settings and entice with impressive views and mysterious places.
The four circular routes range between 16 and 30 kilometers in length, offering optimal conditions especially for beginners and e-mountain bikers, skillfully showcasing the variety of the Alb escarpment. The trail portions are moderate, so technical skills are not a prerequisite for riding the rounds. The focus is not only on challenging climbs and the scenic landscape but also on the fun of biking.
Cozy places to stop, three recognized spa towns, and excellent transport connections make the unique landscape around the “double Alb escarpment” shaped by the Fils a lion-strong experience.
Step into the lion’s realm yourself and make it your own!

From the Reußenstein parking lot, which is optimally accessible by the RadWanderBus on Sundays, the impressive ruin is just a stone's throw away. It majestically towers over the towering rocky ridge at the northern edge of the Swabian Alb. It is one of the most beautiful castle ruins of the region with a magnificent view into the Neidlingen Valley. The actual route initially passes the Reußenstein manor along the border of the Swabian Alb biosphere reserve towards Bläsiberg. From there, we follow the trail over the flat Alb plateau before descending shortly after the Fohlenhaus into the Schöntal. After a short ride on an asphalted path, the route leads us back up to the Lammwirt pond. From here, the route runs at mid-height below the Sommerberg with repeatedly beautiful views of the small town of Wiesensteig located in the valley. After the Katzenfelsen, it goes downhill into the valley, past the Wiesensteig outdoor pool, which invites a refreshing break, in the direction of the paper mill. We continue to the next highlight of the route: the source of the Fils. Upon arrival, beside a shelter and two barbecue spots, an impressive backdrop of meadows, forests, and the young Fils awaits us. Through the romantic Hasental, we return with a moderate ascent back to the Alb plateau and shortly afterward reach the starting point of our round.
