Multi-day hut circuit with 7 stages around the Olperer in the Zillertal Alps with starting points in the mountaineering village of Vals or Schmirn.

Follow in the footsteps of mountaineering legend Peter Habeler. Whether clockwise or anticlockwise, the goal is to circumnavigate the Olperer in the western Zillertal Alps. On a total distance of 56 km and 4,990 m of ascent and 4,980 m of descent, you will reach 6 refuges in a beautiful alpine landscape.
The ideal starting point is above all the mountaineering village of Vals in the Wipptal valley, but you can also start from other points. All valley villages can be reached by public transport (train or bus).

Route description

Touristenrast 1,345 m - Geraer Hütte 2,324 m:
The ascent begins at the Touristenrast inn and runs along the rear Valsertal valley on a 2.5 km long alpine path (No.502) to the valley station of the Geraer Hütte material cable car. The gently ascending path winds through a beautiful Swiss stone pine forest over many serpentines to the Ochsenhütte, from there in an easterly direction over high alpine pastures to the Geraer Hütte at 2,324 m. (Ascent 980 m).
Geraer Hütte 2,324 m - Tuxerjochhaus 2,316 m:
Start in a northerly direction to the Steinernen Lamm (No.527); a newly constructed section on this trail leads over old glacial moraines through the Vordere Höllwand and on to the Kleegrubenscharte. The Kasererscharte and Frauenwand are the last destination before descending to the Tuxerjochhaus. (Walking time 4.5 - 5 h)
Tuxerjochhaus 2,316 m - Friesenberghaus 2,477 m:
Follow the path (no.326) eastwards to the Spannagelhaus 2.531m, from there follow the path (no.526) to the highest point of the circuit the Friesenbergscharte at 2.911 m - from here descend to the Friesenberghaus. (Walking time 4.5 - 5 h)
Friesenberghaus 2,477 m - Olpererhütte 2,389 m:
Past the Friesenbergsee lake, steep ascent over serpentines, a short section along the Berliner Höhenweg (No. 526) and slightly descending to the Olpererhütte. (Walking time 2.5 h)
Olpererhütte 2,389 m - Pfitscherjochhaus 2,275 m:
On trail no. 502, a part of the Neumarkt loop, you reach the Unterschrammachkar, 2280 m. After a short ascent towards the Ameiskopf (2400 m) you continue on an old trail (no. 528) past glacier loops to the Kastenschneid and below the Stamplkees to the Pfitscherjochhaus. (Walking time 3.5 h)
Pfitscherjochhaus 2,275 m - Landshuter/Europahütte 2,693 m:
From the Pfitscherjochhaus you walk through a barren stone landscape along the Landshuter Höhenweg (No.528 or 3) in a westerly direction, the path was built between the 1st and 2nd World War and leads to the Friedrichshöhe to the Landshuter/Europahütte. (Walking time 3 hours)
Landshuter/Europahütte 2,693 m - Tourist rest 1,345 m:
From here take the Geisbeckweg (No.529) to Sumpfschartl 2.666m and continue over the lange Wand in a northerly direction to the inner Zeischalm to the Nockeralm car park in the valley head of the Valsertal nature reserve. (walking time 4 hours)
