The Province of Novara is the seventh largest province of Piedmont, home to 362,000 inhabitants, of whom more than 100,000 live in the provincial capital, Novara.

It borders the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola to the north, the province of Vercelli to the west and Lombardy (province of Milan, province of Varese, province of Pavia) to the east.

The province is divided into 88 municipalities, of which Borgomanero and Arona are the most populous.

The territory of the province is predominantly flat in the southern half and strongly characterised by rice cultivation, which has changed the landscape over time, levelling the land and creating a dense irrigation network with canals, irrigation ditches and wells.
The central and northern area, on the other hand, is characterised by a hilly landscape, strongly marked by vineyards in the easternmost part, while it has wooded features in the west.
To the north, the hills rise more steeply to form the Vergante mountain massif, which culminates in the peak of Mottarone (1,491 m) on the border with the province of Vco.

The territory of the province of Novara includes two important lakes: Lake Maggiore (with its southern part) and Lake Orta (almost the entire lake).

The most important rivers are the Ticino on the eastern edge of the province and the Sesia on the western border, as well as the Agogna and Terdoppio streams, and a network of artificial canals for water regulation.
