"Around the Vineyards":
Dürnstein > Franzosendenkmal (French War Memorial) > cross the railway track at the "Michaeler Cross" and bear right, up the hill ("Loibner Berg"). Follow the road across "Loibner Berg" and the adjacent hill "Pfaffenberg". The route terminates at Förthof Hotel Restaurant close to Stein/Mautern railway station. Return by bus.
Walking time appr. 2-3 hours.

"Vogelberg Tour":
Start out at the "Schloßhotel" and follow the road downhill. Take the footpath on your right (when passing a villa) which leads to "Talgraben". After crossing the railway track between two tunnels, follow the road to the end of the valley. There, turn left (following the green marks) up Vogelberg Hill - this is a slightly difficult part (loose rock and a narrow pass along a mountain wall). Having reached the ridge of the hill, keep right until you get to "Fessl-Hütte" (mountain hut). From there you can walk on to "Starhembergwarte" (observation tower) and via the castle ruins back to Dürnstein.
Walking time appr. 2-3 hours.

To "Ferdinandswarte" Observation Tower via Sicklsteig:
Take the ferry across the Danube and walk downstream from Rossatzbach to Windstallgraben (appr. 1 km). The Sicklsteig (a narrow and steep path) begins in Windstallgraben. The green and white marks are not very frequent, but just follow the straight, narrow valley that leads up to the Bergener Hochland (uplands). At 400m above sealevel, you will come across another trail and a signpost saying "Rotes Kreuz" - you take this trail, but in the opposite direction (East). With Göttweig ahead of you and Dürnstein to your left, you follow this idyllic footpath until you get to another sign post that points the way to the close "Ferdinandswarte" Observation Tower (372m above sea level). From there you have an excellent view of Rossatz, Dürnstein, Loiben, Stein and Krems all the way to Göttweig! The way back via Donauleiten is well-marked (blue and white) and leads down a steep trail that ends at the Danube riverside road. From there you walk back to Rossatzbach and take the ferry to Dürnstein.
Walking time: appr. 2 ½ hours.

To the French Memorial via Kuhberg, Kellerberg and Höherreck:
Turn left immediately after the town gate and go slightly uphill until you reach the last house on this street (close to the rocks on the right, a house with unplastered stone walls). Walk past this house up the hill (Kuhberg), across the ridge and then turn left into a narrow trail framed by rocks and bushes. Soon you will see a tree with a picture of the Virgin Mary fixed to it. Here, you turn right, walk through the valley and then up Kellerberg Hill (not steep). After about 250m the forest clears to reveal a magnificent view. Follow the paved road through the Kellerberg vineyards, which leads you down to another valley. Once you get to a house with a water tank you have to turn left. The road leads you slightly uphill to the end of the valley. After the second bend to the right you leave this road and follow the trail into the forest. After about 200m the forest clears and you continue your walk over the ridge of the hill until you can see the French Memorial (Franzosendenkmal) below you. Walk around this hill as well to get to the next valley (called "Mentalgraben") and take the road that leads through Mentalgraben, cross the railroad tracks and from there it is only about 1km to Dürnstein.
Walking time: appr. 2 ½ hours.

"Jankerl Path" in Rossatz:
Take the ferry across the Danube, then walk until you get to the village sign of Rossatz. The pedestrian priority area to your left is the beginning of the "Jankerl Path" ("Jankerl-Weg"), which leads you past a water reservoir and then winds its way up the hill. Walking up the hill, you will find some spots with magnificent views of Dürnstein. Shortly before you get to the ridge of the hill, the trail meets a forest road. You turn West and stay on the forest road for about 1,5km. Follow the marked trail (blue) downhill until you get to Rossatz, this time coming from the West.
Walking time: appr. 1,5 hours.

"The Orchard Tour":
(a flat hike and bike trail of about 7km) Take the ferry across the Danube. Turn right immediately after getting off the ferry and follow this way along the orchards and vineyards of Rossatz until you get to Rührsdorf. Should you like to take a short rest here, we can highly recommend the "Winzerstüberl", a rustic inn run by the Eßl Family (closed all day Mon & Tue). Refreshed, you continue your tour and walk on until you get to St.Lorenzen. Here, you take the ferry across the Danube to Weißenkirchen (Closed for lunch from 12 noon to 1:30pm) The best way to get back to Dürnstein from Weißenkirchen is to take the BUS (Informations: www.n-mobil.at )
